ROAD TO HANA, MAUI, HAWAII
Road to Hana is a 65 mile (100 km) stretch of road, found on the NE coastline of Maui. Hundreds of hairpin bends, lots of curves and one-lane-bridges, many blind-spots, plenty of waterfalls, ocean vistas and lush green forest, will make your drive so much entertaining.
There are some popular eats, located along the Road to Hana. One of them is Banana Bread. There are a number of places, you will find claiming to be the first and original banana bread places. Any of them is worth a stop. Don’t be surprised to find the place busy. Keep cash handy.
For some, however, driving may become exhausting, but for those who enjoy scenic and somewhat difficult drives, will cherish every moment of it. Almost every other bend brings with it a pleasant surprise. You won’t be able to tour every single attraction on the highway in a single day, however, I would say 4-6 hours should give you enough time to enjoy & explore.
WAIʻĀNAPANAPA STATE PARK
If you continue on Road to Hana for about an hour or so, you will find this charming little beach, located at the end of Wai’anapanapa Road off of Hana Hwy. Volcanic sand beach in contrast with lush green vegetation and turquoise coloured water, offer alluring and inviting atmosphere for be it swimming or relaxing, picnicking or just a stroll under the sun. The park has a big parking area.
HO’OKIPA BEACH PARK
At the end of the day, if you are heading back W on HI-360 and Hwy 36 (Hana Hwy), you can spend some time at Ho’okipa beach, which has a nice white sand beach, popular amongst locals and tourists for surfing and seeing turtles. It’s a busy park. It has plenty of restrooms.
