The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Abu Dhabi


 
 

The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi is one of the largest mosques in the world. It can accommodate more than 40,000 worshippers. 

The mosque’s architecture draws its inspiration from different sources in the Islamic architecture, promoting floral design theme throughout. 

The exterior and interior are clad with one of the purest white marbles acquired from the snow-capped mountains in Italy.

Marble Columns in the Sheikh Zayed Mosque

 The mosque features 4, 107 meters tall minarets, towering over 82 domes of different sizes.  The main dome being one of the largest self-supporting domes in the world, is more than 32 meters in diameter. 

The mosque features more than 1000 marble columns embedded with precious hand-crafted stones.

The mosque is adorned with 7 large chandeliers imported from Germany, glittering with Swarovski crystals. More than 5-story high main chandelier - one of the largest in the world - shines brightly over the largest carpet in the world, finely crafted by Iranian artisans.

Lighting design at Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque

 A slightly warmer colored white marble on the main prayer wall showing 99 names of Allah, offers distinctive look from rest of the walls.

 The mosque’s lighting design incorporates Moon’s phases and changes as the moon waxes and wanes, giving it majestic look at night. 

Anybody can visit the mosque by adhering to certain dress code and rules.
